Hey Everyone!
I have eight weeks before I leave for Honduras to teach at the Abundant Life school in Gracias. Abundant Life is a church based in Tegucigalpa, which owns and runs several schools around Honduras. The schools offer a Christian-based, environmental and bilingual education to hopefully give children many options and open more doors for them as they grow older. One of the administrators at the school sent all the teachers an email yesterday regarding the state of the schools in Honduras. Because of extreme poverty, many parents are being forced to pull their children from the schools. Furthermore, one of the schools in La Union (another town in Honduras) is in great need of a new classroom. Supplies (notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, markers, classroom decorations, etc) always run extremely low in all of the schools.
These schools and children are in need, and there are two categories of ways that we can help these children. 1) With money. It costs between $250-$500 to sponsor a child to attend school for an entire year. That money goes towards students' uniforms, shoes, supplies, food, and coverage for medical care. It would also go towards paying the teachers. I know that $250 is a lot of money, and absolutely any donation of any size would make a huge difference. 2) With supplies (or donations for supplies) for my own future classroom. I will probably have between 20-30 students in the fall, and I want to make sure that we have enough supplies so that my classroom is an awesome place to be!
If you think you might be interested in helping me out or if you'd like more info, send me an email at kirstymc7@gmail.com.
I hope everyone is doing well. 8 weeks left and I'm off to Honduras! Then I can give you guys a firsthand account of the situation over there. Thank you so much, and I love you all.
